Joanne Scott

Biography

Jo began her nursing career in Wellington, New Zealand. After graduating with a Diploma in Nursing from the Wellington Polytechnic she began her Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) career at the Wellington Women’s hospital where she completed the hospital-based NICU course. She moved to the United States of America in 1991 and has worked in NICUs in Hawaii, Washington State, and Virginia. She completed a Bachelor’s degree via a distance program from Massey University and went on to achieve a Master’s of Science degree from the University of Virginia and certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed a Doctorate of Nursing Practice with a research focus on non-accidental head Injury in children under 1 year of age and a Post-Masters certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Presently, she is one of two Neonatal Nurse Practitioners working on the Paediatric Neonatal Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
